Learning About Business (LAB) conducts a week-long summer camp for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors to learn the basics of running a business. With a hands-on curriculum, the students work in teams to develop leadership skills, make executive-level decisions in a computer-simulation environment and come to understand the value of business in our global economy.
Instructors are area professionals who are at the top of their fields. These professionals give guidance to the teams as they develop their companies and make decisions that will impact their simulation businesses – tracking the consequences of their decisions in real time. As part of the experiential learning environment, the students also visit area businesses, both large corporations and small entrepreneurial firms. They have an opportunity to engage with corporate executives and small business owners.
Students participating in LAB Week® also have the opportunity to earn college credit. Learning About Business and Lake Erie College have partnered to award each student who completes LAB Week® with three college credits as a direct transcript for Lake Erie College's Fundamentals of the Enterprise.
LAB Week® also serves as a tremendous college-prep experience where students learn how to meet, interact and work with complete strangers. Held on the campus of Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio, the students stay in dorms and are supervised 24-hours a day.
